Why am I working on this? Because of this!
And here is one of under the wood flooring - I guess they needed to get in there for some reason -
First, I want to say that I am so thankful for light upstairs on the main floor of our house! When I wrote last, we only had a few plugs that worked, and it was very, very dark. But Sam was able to fix whatever needed to be fixed, and all of our lights work!
I am getting a little used to being OUT of the kitchen. We have grilled a little bit, and microwaved a lot, and eaten out some. I have been out and about a lot, picking out some furniture, lighting, etc, and I have been busy getting some of the reception details accomplished, with a lot of help from my sister-in-law, Joan! I had a mini yard sale - I just tagged onto Joan's yard sale and I made $32 - not much, but then I didn't have much!
But it is still stressful, not only being displaced, but all the details that have to be decided on. So, what do I do when I am stressed? I KNIT!!!!
Several years ago, following some very difficult life-changing events, Betsy and I started what we call a "Crisis of Life" project. Now, whenever there is a major life event, even a happy one, like a move, a wedding, or a new kitchen, we start a new project. And, much as I love to do all kinds of sewing and quilting and cross stitch, for some reason, knitting is what I turn to when I need sort of a "comfort" project. Seems like an addiction - I always say, I fall back on all of my addictions when I am stressed - I knit, I buy more fabric, I take lots of books out of the library, etc. Sam told me today that it is better than other possibilities - I don't turn to alcohol or drugs! And that maybe I should call it my therapy!
So, I found a simple pattern for a small afghan done on big needles - in one of the books I have - and I found that pretty purple yarn on sale at our local yarn shop, and I have been knitting and knitting!
I am also knitting a couple of dishcloths for Joan. I love hand-knit dishcloths, but they get worn out quickly, and I just knit some new ones. She was needing new ones, and wanted some plain light-colored ones that she could bleach, so that's what I'm doing for her.

Sounds like good "therapy" to me. And the color is so pretty!
My therapy is counted cross-stitch! I enjoyed seeing an update on your knitting and remodeling projects.
This looks so completely familiar! Entirely, too familiar. I hate it so much when things are all "up in a heaval!" and it seems like there is always something coming or going in this old farmhouse. I think it is because our homes are our "nests" as women, and when things are out of kilter -- no matter that it promises to be better by and by, it is unsettling for us. I feel so completely at loose ends -- like nothing is in its place, least of all, ME and that makes for some definite soul unrest. Maybe I should try some "Life crisis projects" to get me through.
@Buckeyegirlie - You definitely should! And if I am doing a "Crisis of Life" project, I often make it VERY easy - mindless, actually - so that I am not adding to stress by having to figure out a difficult pattern or get frustrated because I keep making mistakes. And, I often make it simple enough that I can pray while I am knitting! During some of our most difficult times of life, I have taken whole days to knit and pray.
I probably should try to get back into crochet again but there are only so many afghans you can give away....your family and friend base runs out eventually. I'd love to know how to knit but never had a chance to find a right handed person to teach me. A left handed friend tried but...... :(
This is a beautiful pattern and color.
Wil isn't happy with me this morning. I was on my, "WHEN are you going to stop doing for the cows and fix things at the house" kick. He has to do these things or hire them done.....so he went to the coffee shop. Do you see a pattern here? SIGH
Mother is 86 years old and she says " When I get old I am going to learn how to knit". Remodeling is so messy but so worth the trouble.
Fantastic therapy, I say! Very pretty purple color. My goal this year to learn how to knit and cross stitch. Years ago when I was in 3rd or 4th grade my teacher taught me how to cross stitch. Haven't done it since, but I would love to work on a project like that. One I can work on at night sitting next to my husband after the children go to bed.
I love the color of choice here! My Mama used to crochet, and tried to teach me how to make a simple potholder. Mine always turned out to be a bowl!
Hope the remodel goes quickly; in the meantime, happy knitting!
I never thought of that kind of idea. Turn your "delima" into a project that could even be a blessing to somebody else! What a wonderful idea!!
Now.....what can I do??????? LOL Hmmmmmm......
I agree one hundred percent....knitting is the best therapy in the world, and not only do you feel better when you knit, but at the end you have something lovely to use or give away!! Double good stuff! Your mess will all be worth it in the end, so hang in there and keep knitting...and buying fabric....and checking out books...all are good ways to fill the time until you're back to cookin'!
