Mess, mess, mess
Here is what my kitchen looks like - actually, it looks a little worse now, because it has even more torn down -
And then the living room right next to it that has everything from the kitchen either in boxes or out on table, if it was something I thought I would readily need over the next couple of months -
And I didn't yet get pictures now that there is plastic around the whole kitchen and more stuff lying around - maybe tomorrow.
It's dark up on that main part of the upstairs now. Something about the electricity doing odd things as they were turning it on and off, to work on various things. I have 2 lamps that are in plugs that work, and that's it for that main area. But my refrigerator is plugged in and working, and for that I am very thankful! Much of the electricity will be getting fixed up and moved around, or whatever it is you do with it when you remodel.
So, I spend a lot of time, unless I need to fix food, which I have not done much of, in the downstairs, which is large and has the bedrooms that the girls used, as well as our former school area, and a large sitting area. My laptop and "desk" stuff are in Amanda's old room, and I have been able to get organized in there. I have a card table set up where I am addressing invitations, and it is pretty bright and cheery down here - except that it is bittersweet because this is where the girls lived and they aren't here!
So, I am going to admit that I am a tad depressed these days. I just feel out of sorts. Nothing is where it is suppose to be, and it all looks cluttered, and I am just blah. And I have such good memories of when we had a kitchen remodeled before, when we lived in Mississippi, and the girls were younger - elementary school age-ish - and we made it fun, and we were all excited to see the progress each day. So, I am trying to focus on how wonderful the kitchen is going to be when it is all finished, and right about then, Betsy and Andrew, and also Suzanne will be coming home! And we're going to celebrate the wedding!
But right now. . . it is just making me blah.

What colors are you using? What new appliances if any are you getting? What color counters and cabinets? I love my white cabinets and especially the new doors we had made and the paint he used is wonderful! Wish they all had it on them. I always have yellow somewhere in my kitchen and some shade of blue too. Right now it is navy but in old house was just regular blue. You will be put out for awhile but the results will be worth it. With your sil doing the contracting it should go well and quickly.
Good excuse not to do much cooking.
@TheSunnyC - Cooking??? What's that? I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner - I could have had left over venison with Jim, but I am not a big fan of venison. We are getting all new appliances! Stainless. Cabinets are a very light wood and the counter tops are a mixture - a brown/beigeish pattern with some grayish in it for the main counters, in a new laminate, and a very light blend granite for our island and another counter we are having built. Tile floor also sort of brownish. And a beautiful light backsplash tile. I'll show pictures of the samples when I remember to take them. Haven't chosen colors yet!
wow - it really is torn up, isn't it?
It will be beautiful when it is finished.
I am always a tad depressed and discombobulated when something in my house is under construction.
Don't be too sad -- a new kitchen (complete with stainless steel!) is so exciting!! I know it's not the most convenient time but God's timing is perfect -- you will find blessings in this
Looking forward to the BEAUTIFUL pics to come!!
A woman needs her kitchen, and you are having separation anxiety from yours!
This, too, shall pass! Just keep telling yourself that, and know that when it is finished you'll be glad you went through it. But I totally understand....when you're in the middle of a mess, you wonder if it will ever be over. Here's a suggestion: get outside a lot. Go places and do things and visit folks....that will make the time pass more quickly and will keep you from feeling displaced.
I can totally understand the down feeling. I like things in their place and settled. I feel like that when we move and things are still in boxes. I want it put away and ready to use.
I bet it will be so awesome when it's done!
Let's see...you can use the "not cooking" as an advantage to have hubby take you on lots of dates!
...and...use this time as an excuse not to have to do housework and spend more time outside of the house with friends...maybe???
Cheer up, knowing that you're gonna have an awesome new kitchen and a celebration with the family...time flies, ya know! Anyway, if that didn't cheer you up a bit then I'll just commiserate with you in your blah-ness. Love You!
Hey, I have that very same navy tablecloth! I'm just thinking of all the fun you will have cooking in a brand spankin' new kitchen! It's always fun to think of clicking our heels together like Dorothy, or twitching our nose, like Samantha, but that's not real life. Think of how long it takes to make a quilt, a long time, but so worth the wait. Please take project pictures so we can see the whole process. XO
Looks like its going to be a big change! Renovations are a huge mess, and interfere with regular life so much. Hope everything turns out great and in time for everyone coming home to see it! Sounds like its a good time to try out some of the restaurants in the area. It will make you appreciate it all the more when it gets finished, good luck with the project.
