  • Getting ready for the wedding

On Thursday, which was the 12th, after the Children's Museum, Jim and I went back to the airport to pick up Suzanne, while the rest of the kids ate lunch and then went back to the hotel so that the little ones could take naps.  We were staying at a wonderful hotel - a Residence Inn, in Aurora, CO, near the airport.  I chose that one because we could get two 2-bedroom suites and a studio suite for a very reasonable price that included a wonderful breakfast.  Each suite had a full kitchen, so, although we didn't cook there, we kept snacks and drinks and we had coffee there in the mornings, etc.  One of the 2-bedrooms was for Jim and I and Suzanne and Bets, and the other was for Amanda and Sam and kiddos.  They had a separate living room too, and it was especially perfect for Amanda with the little ones and a nursing baby.   We were all across the hall from each other, and Wendy and Dave were in a regular studio suite, right next door.

Betsy was modeling her flowers, because I hadn't seen them yet.  They are a silk flower arrangement made at a Michael's near where she lives.  She chose silk because she is allergic to most flowers, as is Dave, so that was the safest, and of course they can be used again for the two later receptions she is having.

Jim and Andrew hanging out watching TV -

They had framed a picture of themselves with a white matte around it for people to sign at the reception -

That night, Thursday, we were all invited to the Quillens for dinner.  I took a few pictures but hadn't asked permission of any of them to blog them, so I won't.  It was a lovely dinner, very casual, and we were able to meet Andrew's family.  We already had met his parents and some others, but this was such a nice opportunity to get to chat and know them better!  We had storms all day in the Denver/Aurora area, and the Quillens had been without power for a few hours that afternoon!  But Andrew's mother did a great job in pulling off a wonderful, delicious dinner for us!

Friday - wedding day!  We spent the morning running a few errands and then started getting ready in the afternoon.  Here is Betsy trying on her dress early in the afternoon - I hadn't seen it since we had taken it to be altered back in March -

And with a shawl I knitted for her -

    The finishing touches -

    All ready!

Next time - the wedding!  It was at the Denver Aquarium, and was very small - immediate family only, in front of the big fish tank!  Very interesting!

  • Beautiful pictures, Donna! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • I LOVED her dress!!  Especially the lace on the bottom -- her shawl brought everything together.  She was absolutely glowing :)   Sweet pictures!

  • Love that the bow tie matched the flowers!  What a good time!  And the shawl!!!!!  Donna, you are such an artist!

  • Okay, where are the pix of YOU with your beautiful bride-daughter??? The shawl...we need close-ups...it looks gorgeous! And Betsy and Jim together...so sweet...with bowtie matching the flowers...did you make the tie, too?? Wonderful!

  • @AmericanJanet - Ha ha - not too many pictures of me since I take all the pictures!  There are a few coming, but not with Betsy in them!  I got home that night and my pearls had turned around and my hair was all a mess, so who knows what I look like in the pictures that were taken by the more professional guys anyway!  I try to avoid them when possible.  The bowtie was actually one that Jim had - he wears one everyday to work, so he has quite a variety!

  • I agree with AmericanJanet -- we need closeups of the shawl!  It looks like gossamer!!  Dainty, delicate.  Perfect for such a lovely bride!

  • It was all so lovely!  Like everyone else, I love the shawl, and would love to see it close-up!

  • Beauiful dress and shawl! An aquarium, WOW that would be fun! Can't wait to see the pictures.

  • Donna, thanks you so much for posting these lovely pictures!  A beautiful bride and a handsome groom!   Love that wedding shawl!  What a gift of love.   I've been thinking and praying for you during this busy time.  Before you know it the Va. reception will be history as well with only warm memories and pictures to go back to.  Love you,   Polly

  • Betsy looked so pretty and happy. I love happy, glowing brides. Have really enjoyed reading about you wedding adventures. I also love the aquarium setting.
