  • Birthday party!

This past Easter weekend, we celebrated, along with Easter, Megan's 3rd birthday!  Amanda made this rainbow cake!

And here was the blowing out of candles, with help from big brother, Charlie -

Megan loves the icing but not the cake, and Charlie loves the cake but not the icing.  They were quite a pair, eating their pieces of cake!

Before the cake and ice cream, we had a nice dinner here - on Saturday night, the night before Easter.  It is something we have done since Amanda and Sam have kids - celebrate Easter the day before - so that Easter Sunday itself is a more relaxed day.  Not that it is relaxed - we had a Sunrise Service followed by our church services - but the afternoon is then free for naps for kids and adults alike!

We gave Megan an adorable purse for her birthday!  She loved it!  I will treasure the expression on her face, and her saying, "I got a purse!!!", forever!  I put inside the purse a cute little wallet with cards and play money, and a key chain with some keys on it, and a little mirror.  She started walking around right away with her purse on her shoulder!

Meanwhile, the truck that the kids ride around here at my house, has had its steering wheel break off and be fixed before, and it broke off again that night.  Grandpa and Daddy were working on fixing it up, but at one point, it was in the living room with the steering wheel off.  I walked in there to see what John was up to, and caught him with the steering wheel in his hands.  I didn't get a picture, because, as soon as he saw me, he looked panicked, like he was doing something wrong and put it down.  But I got the camera and got these shots -

We had lots of fun that night!

Now, I am getting ready to pack up AGAIN. . . headed to a wedding in St. Louis this weekend!

  • You are a traveling woman!  So glad that you are able to do it.  The kiddos are so cute.  Megan is such a girly girl!

  • The cake looks delicious. You are sure adding up some frequent traveler miles. :) Enjoy.

  • If that cake was as good as it looks, it was scrumptious! Purses and little girls go so well together. I love that you filled it up with those goodies. Safe travels!

  • Could you tell us how to make the cake?  Soooo pretty!

  • Love the cake and thanks for sharing the pictures.  You are one busy lady!

  • @fwren - Amanda said that she looked online for a rainbow cake, and then she baked two cake mixes - plain ones - separated the batter into 6 bowls and put the appropriate food coloring into each bowl.  Then she baked them and layered them as usual.  The kids helped her put the sprinkles on!
