  • A quilt retreat and a snowstorm

I went on a quilt retreat last weekend with about 13 women to a beautiful state park in VA, Claytor Lake.

We rented a large lodge, where 9 women stayed, and a 3-bedroom cabin, where 4 of us stayed -

The weather was beautiful, with highs in the 50's for a couple of days.  We sewed, took walks, enjoyed the beautiful lake -

I worked on one of the machine pieced quilts I am in the middle of, for Charlie, and then I made one flower in my Grandmother's Flower Garden project -

A snowstorm was coming in on Sunday, so a couple of us left early in the day.  We arrived home just as it was starting, and so I enjoyed watching the snow fall from home.  We had a lot of power outages in this area, as the snow was wet and heavy and was taking down trees and power lines.  Our power was out off and on through the night on Sunday night, and when I talked to Amanda in the morning, their power had gone out Sunday night and was still out.  So, they came over here and ended up staying overnight and into Tuesday until their electricity was on again.  We had a wonderful time!  The kids thought it was quite an adventure.

Here is the view, after the snow stopped, out of our backyard -

    And the front yard -

And by Monday afternoon, the temperatures were warming up again.  Amanda took the big kids out to play in the snow while it was still on the ground -

It got warmer yesterday, and then up to 60 degrees today - most of the snow is gone!

  • Think you have had more snow this winter than we have.

  • Love the quilting trip - my older sis goes often with her Bee group and loves it so much! Almost makes me wish I were a quilter!!

It's so hard to imagine snow when it was 79 degrees today!! We've been much warmer (at least warm more often) this year than last, for which I am eternally grateful!!

  • That looks like a wonderful place for a retreat!  And how nice of the snow to hold off till you got home and could play in it happily!

  • Love the idea of a quilting retreat.  I have often thought I would like to know how to quilt but never did anything other than think about it.  My dil has just started quilting and has made the baby a quilt and is now working on one for her other daughters. (they have 4 girls)  The older I get the less I care for the snow.  This year, I am very thankful to say that our winter has been very mild.  The few inches we do get, usually is gone in a day or two.   Normal snowfall here for us is over 100 inches.  You can see how blessed I have been this year..

  • The sewing looks so familiar! Good times! And the snow is just so beautiful it almost takes my breath away. I really love snow and hardly ever get to experience it in real, so pictures like these are a real treat.

  • Your snow scenes were so pretty.  We have had the driest winter I've ever seen... our local schools haven't even had the fun of a single snow day.

  • A quilt retreat sounds wonderful...unless you're someone who can't quilt! LOL!!!

    Love you snow pictures!!!

  • The quilting retreat sounds like a fun! I do miss my quilting. Your snow photos...a winter wonderland...love them.
