  • Birthdays and more shells on the shelf

I am having a lot of trouble getting pictures posted on my blog, and then, it is almost impossible to link to facebook.  I have tried 3 different ways - firefox, internet explorer, google chrome, and I have tried to add it as just a link and no matter what I do, it takes sooooo long, with many attempts,  or doesn't work at all.  I will be the first to admit that it is user error, but no matter, I am just going to limit what I do.

So, I am giving up on linking to facebook for awhile anyway!

We have had a week of birthdays.  John turned 1 on Monday!  Amanda made him this adorable dinosaur cake, with help from Charlie and Megan -

And he had a little help blowing out that candle!

Amanda and Sam had a little party for him with lots of family and friends.

Jim's birthday was yesterday!  He is 59.  Several of the different clinics he works in had cake and on different days, depending on when he was going to be there, so he celebrated a lot!  He got calls and texts and cards from the kids, and he and I went out to his favorite Roanoke restaurant, Alexander's, last night for dinner.

Last month, at Myrtle Beach,  I collected more shells on the beach.  I didn't quite know what I was going to do with them.  I put them in a basket, waiting for some inspiration.  I was on the lookout for a glass jar, to kind of go with my jars that I have shells in, on my canning shelf.  But the ones I was seeing were not jumping out at me, so to speak, and they were way too pricey.  Yesterday, I realized that I now had an empty new large vase, from the flowers Jim had sent me in Myrtle Beach for my birthday.  So, I put them in that, and then, after seeing a blog from  Cheryl - Jim walked up just as I was looking at her photo of her arrangement of bottles - and he said that my shell shelf would be the perfect place for that, to add varying heights, as she had on her shelf.  So, this is what it looks like now -

The vase on the right is the one with the newer shells.  I like it!

  • I'm so sad - for some reason when I get on your Xanga, all of your pics are still cut off on the right side.  So I don't get to see the pretty vase!!

I was able to post and load pics, and post to FB tonight.  I'm sorry you are having trouble.

Happy Birthday to your birthday bunch!  I love the cake, and the kids are getting so big!!

  • @pettybunch - can you just click on photos on my site and see them?  Maybe I need to keep them to the left more and that won't happen.  I am so frustrated - I click on the post to facebook, and it doesn't work!  And often, after I upload pictures to xanga, they disappear by the time I switch over to put them on my blog.  But anyway, see if you can just look at the photos.

  • I was able to click on the photo - and I LOVE the vase!  Something I noticed: I looked at your "Lamb Chop" post, and that one pic of Lamb Chop was in the center, but all other pics were cut off just like always for me.  I just don't know what the issue is - none of your other readers seem to have this problem!  I guess we all have quirks in this cyber world we live in!

  • I've been having problems with my photos too... I can upload them, but then they won't appear when I try to put them on my site.  Extremely frustrating!
Your dinosaur cake is so cute!  It's hard to believe he's already a big one year old.  The shell vase looks great too- I love collecting shells at the beach, but then I never know what to do with them- good idea.

  • your shelf looks AWESOME!!! Need ya some Apothecary jars! lol As you know, I am very partial to them right now!!!

And that first birthday.......I needed an early morning grin and I got it!!

Happy Birthday to a fellow "Birthdayian!!" lol

  • @victoriantomboy - I have to tell you - I was in AC Moore the other day, looking at their glass container options, and saw a lot of apothecary jars and I thought of you!  And I was tempted to buy some - but resisted temptation because I didn't need them and was spending my money, with a coupon, on new rotary cutter blades, which I really needed.  Anyway, I love collecting glass jars and bottles!

  • @piecedtreasures -  that makes me feel special!! Knowing how much I enjoy them and knowing somebody associates me with them, that makes me bubbly! lol You just made my day

    Remember....you can make them!!

  • What a fun cake for a birthday kiddo ~

  • You all have such fun!  I love the clear bottles and jars and the arrangement.
