  • San Francisco

I just got back from a trip to San Francisco!  Jim had a meeting to go to there, so I went along.  It had been over 25 years since I have been there!  We did a little sightseeing, a lot of eating, saw some old friends.  And when Jim was busy and I didn't want to venture out by myself, I did a lot of sewing, reading, and napping.

We ate dinner one night at Pier 39, not at the Hard Rock Cafe under this sign, but at Neptune's Palace, which was one of our favorites when we were there before.

Nice view of these boats from the pier -

It was getting dark by the time I took these, but here you can see the Golden Gate Bridge, if you look closely -

    And Alcatraz -

One afternoon, we went to Golden Gate Park, which we had never seen before.  It has several museums, and this lovely Japanese Tea Garden -

Our flights out were delayed and delayed, but we got there!  No problem with flights getting home.  And while we were there, we did some walking, took taxis, the cable car, and the metro to get around.  Lots of fun and good memories!

I arrived home to a package - these dishcloths for my new kitchen, knitted for me by my friend Julie!!  What a treat!  This is a picture of a pumpkin knitted into it -

And this one with a diamond pattern.  Hard to see the patterns in the pictures!

Thanks, Julie!  What a nice treat!

I also came to to some not-so-good-news.  My bloodwork results.  Not good at all.  I went up in all the things you are not suppose to go up in, including my blood sugar and cholesterol.  My own fault - I have some GREAT excuses!  Lots of traveling, a wedding and a separate reception, and the fact that I had no kitchen for so many months!  But the truth of the matter is that I let all those things get the best of me; I eat poorly when I am stressed, and I had gained back some of the weight I had lost last year.

That is enough to get me motivated again to eat healthy, exercise more, lose this weight (40 pounds to go), and bring those numbers down!

Amanda and the kids were here tonight (the guys were both out hunting), and she was soooo supportive and helpful with great ideas for me for yummy meals and snacks that are very healthy!

  • SF looks wonderful!  You have a great support team and I know you will see success quickly!  Now, have fun at the ocean!

  • Donna, I'm not doing well either in the eating dept.  Maybe we can encourage one another.  I'm going to try to do really well on my CA trip.  I always gain when I go there but possibly cousin will let me cook/make salads some rather than eating out all the time.  If we eat out I hope she will go to places where I can get salads.  I'm going to put some yogurt in her fridge for me.

SF was such fun the short time we were there years ago.  I loved the Warf area where you ate and took pictures.

  • The Bay Area is one of my most favorite places! It sounds like you were adventuresome and enjoyed yourself...way to go! Sorry to hear about your blood work...but I am glad that you have the support and have a plan...Oatmeal is my secret weapon. Glad you're home again. Oh, and Julie's dish cloths look were a wonderful treat.

  • Such fun! I hope to go to CA one day, but so not sure which part I'd choose if I only had one choice!

I sure understand about the eating issues!  It is just so hard to eat well when you are on the go so often!  I am working on my diet again, but it's a slow go right now!

We should all encourage each other!!

  • I'm glad I saw your post on the Xanga front page!
I used to live in SF. I lived there for seven years. Your photos brought back good memoris for me. Of all the cities I lived in, it is still my favorite. I used to drive across the GG bridge and the Bay bridge weekly.
    HUGS!

  • I was catching up on your posts and liked the San Francisco pictures since we had just been there in August.
